Karen Kain’s 1983 book included health tips, recipes and stretching exercises.
When Karen Kain graced the cover of the March 1987 issue of Dance Magazine, she was, at 35, one
of National Ballet of Canada’s most revered principal dancers, a rank she had achieved 16 years earlier.
Despite having nearly retired from the stage at 28 (when she felt she had already reached the end of her
career), she told us, “Never in my life have I enjoyed performing as much as I do now. I just let the music
fill me up and off I go.” Today, Kain continues to be a driving force in the dance world as artistic director
of the National Ballet of Canada.
